DESCRIPTIONS OF OUR VARIETIES
Thompson S-8: Self Fertile but greatly benefits from hand pollination.
Very dark green, thick stems with single thorn; abundant, small dark red
outside/deep magenta inside fruit. Very hardy plant, heat and sun
resistant, begins fruiting at a young age and blooms earlier than most DF--
early May--and continues throughout summer and fall into Nov. Fruit is
firm, small but abundant and very sweet with slight floral taste.
Undatus--white: Self Fertile and usually Self Pollinating. Very large (1-
1/2 to 3-1/2 lb), hot pink fruit with clear white flesh, sweet and refreshing.
Plant has strong, wide stems with multiple thorns; can withstand full sun
with minimal sunburn. Generally a mid summer (July) bloomer with plenty
of fruit on into November and later.
Guatemalan—Thomson G-2: Self Sterile so needs a pollinator. Sweet
and delicious large (1-2 lb) dark red outside with dark magenta flesh.
Stems are strong but will sunburn, though rarely sustain permanent
damage; single thorn. Blooms early (May) and produces plenty of fruit
well into Nov. Perfect companion to S-8, for cross pollination as they both
bloom at approximately the same time. While its lack of sun tolerance
and self sterile properties are a negative, the large, sweet, attractive fruit
make it worth the trouble.
Polyrhizus: Self Sterile so needs a pollinator. Very dark red outside,
deep magenta inside, sweet and delicious medium size fruit (3/4 -1 lb).
Branches are very strong and resistant to sun damage—have a waxy
coating. Cuttings and plants are available in limited quantities. (currently
